Philip Howard, MD, MLS (ASCP)

Dr. Howard earned his Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland. He completed his internship at Allegheny Health Network in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, followed by residency training in Clinical Pathology and a fellowship in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine at Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He is board-certified in both Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine and is also credentialed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, uniquely positioning him within clinical and laboratory medicine.

Dr. Howard joined Versiti in 2026 after serving as an Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, New York where he specialized in transfusion medicine and therapeutic apheresis in an academic medical setting. His background also includes prior experience as a blood center medical director. In his current role as Medical Director for Versiti Blood Center of Ohio, his interests include advancing diagnostic excellence in immunohematology laboratories and supporting the recruitment and education of diverse blood donor populations.
